Installation of a falling-film evaporator

  • Customer: Biowanze

Date of completion:

November 2026

As part of an initiative to increase the capacity of its distillation unit, BIOWANZE has launched a project aimed at optimizing the performance of its rectification column, which has been identified as the facility’s primary bottleneck. Our company was commissioned to carry out the engineering studies required for the integration of a new evaporator.

This is a falling-film evaporator with a heat-exchange surface area of 2,200 m²; it is connected to the rectification column by a DN1000 pipe and supplied with steam via a DN700 line.

This equipment makes it possible to process the residual water from the column—which still contains ethanol—and to increase the overall thermal capacity of the facility. Various auxiliary systems have also been designed to manage condensates, non-condensable gases, and cooling water for the bearing seals.

Furthermore, piping flexibility studies were conducted to manage the forces transmitted to existing equipment. These studies notably led to the incorporation of spring supports, which absorb loads under all conditions while limiting the stresses exerted on the connecting flanges.

Finally, particular attention was paid to the capacity of the existing pile foundations to support additional loads, which necessitated optimizing the distribution of forces and ensuring both the stability of the new structures and their compatibility with those already in place.

Furthermore, these studies and interventions were carried out in compliance with the specific requirements associated with the ATEX environment of the area.
